Jaguar unveiled its electric XJ test vehicle in 2010 and Rolls-Royce wheeled out its 102EX Phantom Experimental Electric at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Now, Autocar reports that Mercedes-Benz is thinking of maybe possibly considering launching an all-electric S-Class.
To be exact, Autocar claims that a battery-powered S-Class "is not being ruled out" and that Mercedes' technical head, Thomas Weber, said that, "At the moment, we are looking at customer demand." Now, all that really implies is that an electric-only version is one of many powertrain options that M-B will likely consider before launching the next-gen S-Class, which is scheduled to roll up in late 2012.
Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the upcoming S-Class are already part of M-B's master plan.
